Institute history

The State Institute of Development of a Family and Youth (now the “State Institute for Family and Youth Policy”) was created by the decision of the Cabinet of Ministry of Ukraine on 26th of April 1991 for carrying out of researches on problems of a family, women, youth and children.

The Institute spends research work in close cooperation with other scince – research structures, is direct with Institut of sociology NAS of Ukraine, Institute of a demography and social researches NAS of Ukraine, Institute of psychology of a name of G.S.Kostjuka NAS of Ukraine, National institute of strategic stadies, Institute problems of education NAPS of Ukraine and others. Such cooperation allows effective cooperation  of  fundamental and practice studies institutions.

The purpose of activity of Institute

Institute activity as scientifically research structure of the Ministry of Education and Science, youth and sports oriented, mainly on/for scientifically – methodical maintenance of definition and state policy realisation; support and development of children, women, youth, family institute; carrying out of social work. It allows to spend scientific influence on formation of strategy of development of a policy of the state in social sphere.
The purpose of activity of Institute as state scientifically – research, expert – advisory, scientifically – methodical structure consists in carrying out fundamental and applied researches on pressing questions of a policy of improvement of a condition of a family and women, maintenance healthy and an all-around development of children and youth; working out of recommendations and their the subsequent implementations  concerning for the decision of problems of a family, children and youth; working out of methodical recommendations in questions of the decision of social problems of special categories of the population, introduction of experimental platforms of social work; carrying out of applied scientific researches by request of the different ministries, departments and the organisations, introduction of results of scientific work in a direction of development of all spheres of social life of Ukraine.

Activities of the Institute

• study of social needs, attitudes and preferences of different categories of the population using sociological and social psychological research.
• drafting legislation concerning the implementation of state policy on family, children and youth.
• scientific and methodological support of certain social programs implemented by government and NGOs.
• development of new technologies on social support for families, children and youth.
• training and training for authorities involved in implementation of state policies for families, children and youth.
• training and training for authorities involved in implementation of state policies for families, children and youth, training of NGOs.
• conferences, round tables, seminars and other events, including international, training, publication of scientific, technical, educational, reference, information and other literature.

Priorities

• development of state policy on family, children and youth as a complete scientific system;
• formation of effective social policy for young families with children under deployment and combat the economic crisis in Ukraine;
• development and implementation of innovative technologies of social work with different groups of families, children and youth;
• formation of new values ​​and orientations of the society on human health;
• annual monitoring of the social situation of families, women, children and youth, based on recommendations developed by public authorities for the advancement of the above categories of population (annual reports to the President of Ukraine, Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on the situation of families, children and young of the year).
• technology development and HIV / AIDS, drug abuse and infections, sexually transmitted diseases among youth.
• development of sectoral indicators for monitoring and evaluation of the epidemiological situation of HIV-infection/AIDS, state standards for social services to HIV-infected and intravenous drug users and state standards in social rehabilitation of young drug addicts.
• monitoring and evaluation of the effectiveness of social programs that are implementing government agencies, community youth and children’s organizations.
• study of social needs, attitudes and preferences of different categories of the population using sociological and social psychological research.
• development of curricula and training of national trainers with a healthy lifestyle of children and young people in training foster parents and parents – teachers.
• development and publication of books for the industry on issues of social support and social support of family, women, children and youth.
• training and training for authorities involved in implementation of state policies for families, children and youth, training of NGOs.

Perspectives of the Institute

• implementation of systematic monitoring the social situation, attitudes and preferences of Ukrainian family, women, children and youth, based on recommendations developed by public authorities for the advancement of the above categories of the population;
• conducting fundamental research on social status and health Ukrainian family, women, children and youth, gender equality, etc.;
• Development and testing of new models of social support and social care crisis categories of families, women, children and youth (children who are in adoptive families and adopted children, HIV-infected children and young people, injecting drug users, etc.);
• monitoring and evaluation of social programs that implement government agencies, community youth and children’s organizations;
• development strategies and programs enhance youth participation in social and political processes of the country;
• development of models PR – activities in government agencies;
• development of models and technologies effective social advertising;
• development of models of interaction between state, public and private sector in terms of civil society in Ukraine;
• training for field Ministry for Family, seminars, training for different categories of employees of state bodies and NGOs working to solve social problems of family, women, youth and children.
